S.E.L.G. MEMBERSHIP : THE 3 LEVELS
In January 2000, The South East Locomotive Group became the proud owners of two Class 33 locomotives, 33 063 and 33 065, moving to their new home at Shepherdswell on the East Kent Railway in March 2000. Following many months of hard work, 33 063 was successfully started on 2nd July 2000, subsequently working EKR passenger trains in its mid-1980’s BR Blue livery. 33063 joined our operational Ruston Diesel Shunter, 427 operating most weekends during the operating season. In July 2001, 33065 was successfully restarted and subsequently restored to 1990’s BR Blue with off-white roof and red buffer-beams, in August 2002. ‘427’ was released from SELG ownership in Jan’04.
In the Autumn of 2004, the decision was taken to relocate the Group to the Tunbridge Wells West-based Spa Valley Railway, with immediate effect.
Some of the highlights for the Group include the naming of 33063 as “R.J.Mitchell” on 5th September 2005 plus visits to the Mid-Norfolk Rly with 33065 and running to Eridge with 33063 since the SVR’s extension opened in 2012.
In more recent times, 33065 has entered the shed at Tunbridge Wells to begin a much needed and lengthy overhaul which will include bodywork & cab repairs, bogie lift, re-wire and power unit removal & rebuild. Much to do then, over the next few years.
To help in both financial and moral support, the SELG are operating three levels of membership of the Group. They are:-
