We are delighted to report that 33063 'R.J. Mitchell' has successfully returned to traffic ready for Polar Express season at the Spa Valley Railway.

The locomotive made her first passenger-hauling run on 25th October, performing excellently throughout the day, bar a small coolant leak which as promptly fixed.

The overhaul, carried out entirely by SELG volunteers, involved significant work on the locomotives roof, wiring, and bodywork. The team also took the opportunity to carry out a temporary repaint into Blue Primer.

The dedication of our volunteers never ceases to amaze and many have given up their weekends and evenings to ensure 33063 is in the best possible condition for the coming winter season.

The loco will return to the shed next year for the extensive overhaul to continue.
